Little Musketeer

It was the 19th October 1979 the eve of the WBA World Heavyweight boxing title fight between Gerrie Coetzee and Big John Tate to be held at Loftus Versveld in Pretoria.

I was 18, busy writing my final matric exams and I had a ticket for the fight. Needless to say I was very excited and found it hard to fall asleep that night. When sleep eventually overcame me I was awakened by something pressing down on my feet and lower legs. I sat up and saw this small man dressed in the style of the three musketeers. He was barely a metre tall and was made up entirely if little green and red dots. I immediately put on my bedside lamp and the man vanished. I didn't fall asleep again that night and kept the light on til morning.

I never told anyone about that experience and put it down to a bad dream, but I knew that it wasn't. Many years later, in 1992, my wife, baby daughter and I were having dinner at my parents house. Somehow the conversation turned to ghost stories. My mum went first and I was shocked, even a bit unnerved, when she recounted an incident that happened to her in 1956 when she 16 years old. She was baby sitting one of my older cousins and after putting to bed decided to retire herself.

She said she was woken up after feeling something pressing down on her legs. She described the same little green and red man that I had experienced. Like I'd said earlier I never told anyone, not even my parents, about what happened to me in 1979.

It was uncanny. Fortunately more than 40 years later I've never seen that little musketeer again.??
